Everyday Face Oil

Most moisturisers are mostly water, thickened with emulsifiers, preserved with synthetics, and priced accordingly. A well-chosen face oil skips all of that — it's pure active ingredient, absorbed directly into the skin. This three-oil blend was designed to suit most skin types, absorb quickly without leaving a greasy finish, and cost a fraction of what you'd pay for a comparable product in a pharmacy. Three ingredients. Five minutes to make. Lasts three months.

Method

  1. Pour all three oils into the bottle. Use a small funnel if you have one — these oils are too good to waste on spills. Rosehip first, then jojoba, then squalane.
  2. Close and swirl. Put the dropper top on firmly and swirl the bottle gently for 30 seconds. The oils will combine immediately — there's no emulsifying needed.
  3. That's it. Label the bottle with the date so you know when you made it.
  4. Apply morning or evening (or both). Dispense 3–4 drops onto clean fingertips. Press — don't rub — gently into slightly damp skin. Damp skin absorbs oil more readily than dry. Allow about 60 seconds for the oil to absorb before applying SPF or makeup on top.
Beauty Tip

For an extra boost, warm the drops between your palms for a few seconds before pressing onto your face. The warmth opens the pores slightly and helps the oil absorb faster. This blend works particularly well used at night — apply after cleansing and let it work while you sleep.

Why each ingredient

Skin Type Notes

This blend suits normal, dry, combination and mature skin well. For oily or acne-prone skin, reduce the rosehip to 20 ml and increase the jojoba to 30 ml — jojoba's sebum-balancing properties make it the better base for oilier complexions. If you're new to face oils, patch test on your inner arm for 24 hours first.

Shelf life: 3 months. Store in a cool, dark place — the dark glass bottle helps, but avoid keeping it on a sunny windowsill. Rosehip oil in particular degrades in light and heat.

All three ingredients are available from Holland & Barrett, Amazon UK, or any good natural beauty supplier. Buy cold-pressed rosehip and unrefined jojoba where possible — the refining process removes some of the beneficial compounds.
